The Estrela also called "Cao da Serra da Estrela" is a Portuguese mountain dog, solid, used to work high in pasture lands and courageous: he defends the herds against wolves, and also protects isolated houses. He is affectionate to owners, kind and loyal, somehow rascal but yet receptive to training. He also appreciates independence and seems like he doesn't want to intrude upon you. He can also be very kind width other dogs but always on his guard against strangers. He is a very good family dog and willingly plays his role in being a companion dog provided he is not cooped up.
